Just for a Minute

One photo. One story.

Summer grasses in the evening light

I often take my camera outside thinking I’ll only be gone for a minute.

It rarely is just a minute.

I start looking around. Then a little closer. At the grass, the light, tiny drops of water, things I’ve probably passed many times without really noticing.

And somehow, I stay.

Sometimes I take one photograph. Sometimes twenty. Most of them will never be seen by anyone but me.

And sometimes I don’t take the camera at all.

I just walk, look around and enjoy whatever happens to be there that day.

I think I need both.

Photography makes me stop and look a little longer. But there are also moments when I don’t want to think about the light, the composition, or whether something would make a good photograph.

I just want to be there.

Maybe that’s why my quick walks with the camera are rarely quick.

And why some of the moments I remember best have no photograph at all.
